Welcome to Chevening

Welcome to the official website for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Chevening programme. These FCO Scholarships and Fellowships are prestigious awards which enable overseas students to study in the United Kingdom.

The Scholarships are offered in over 130 countries. They enable talented graduates and young professionals whom we identify as the potential leaders of tomorrow to develop strong links with the UK and with each other in a global network, at the same time as becoming familiar with the UK.

The Chevening programme provides around 1,000 new scholarships each year for postgraduate studies or research at UK Institutions of Higher Education. In addition to that we provide over 200 Fellowship places.

What is Chevening contains information and guidelines about the scholarship scheme. Becoming a Scholar talks you through that process. If you represent an organisation or business which is interested in the Chevening programme and the opportunities it offers, Invest in Chevening is where you can find out more.

CHEVENING TODAY

This is an important time for the Chevening scholarship scheme. We are moving ahead with a smaller, better organised programme, focussed on the leaders of tomorrow. Savings from this reform are supporting new priority programmes for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, principally on climate change. The Chevening Programme remains a global scheme, with a focus particularly on countries such as China and India, countries which are going to be most important to foreign policy over coming years. We are selecting more carefully to ensure our scholars really are potential future leaders and we are working to ensure we are drawing from the widest possible pool of potential scholars. We want to increase the engagement that British business and Government Departments with an international focus have with Chevening scholars, and we are engaged in a consultation process to ensure this happens. We will work in the future through two scholarship schemes only, the Marshall scheme in the USA and the Chevening scheme in the rest of the world.

Network Now

If you are already a Chevening Scholar, Fellow or alumnus, then go to the member network and start networking now. You might want to participate in discussions on climate change or the global economy. If you can't see what you want, then why not start a networking group. Contact us and we will tell you how.

About This Website

Chevening.com was re-launched in Autumn 2008. There are now over 30 thousand Chevening alumni covering the 25 years of this Scholarship scheme. That is a huge resource of people. This networking site has been designed to make contact between scholars and alumni much easier, particularly in shared fields of interest.
